The Woman and the Wind

I have been inspired by paintings. My poem, The Woman and the Wind is published in the Northampton Poetry Review (Issue 6, 2025), which includes a range of poetry on the theme of ‘Rejuvenation’. The Woman and the Wind is an ekphrastic poem, which I wrote in response to The Church at Auvers by Vincent Van Gogh. I first saw this painting in Paris many years ago, but it left a strong impression on me. In the early stages of writing the poem, a feeling and image came in to my mind that ‘a gust | of wind swept inside the church’, and so the poem was developed from this feeling.
